The Edge of Fate: Top Things to Do First

Read on to find out the first things you should do when you get into The Edge of Fate for the first time.

The Edge of Fate is merely days away, and so knowing exactly what you need to do when you get into the expansion is going to be critical, especially if you’re preparing for The Desert Perpetual Contest Mode. While it’s impossible to predict everything you need to do, there are some things you should definitely consider doing as soon as you get into the game on Tuesday.

Of course, with so many new things to discover for yourself, take this as a general list of things you’ll want to do if you want to optimise your time a little going in. If you want to discover things for yourself and spend your time working them out, that’s a great way to play the game! Just, maybe look away from this article now.

In this guide, we’re going to cover everything that we think that you should do going into The Edge of Fate, to make sure that you hit the ground running and have everything you need to tackle the hardest content in this new era of Destiny.

Enjoy The Edge of Fate Campaign

The first thing you’ll want to do when heading into Destiny this Tuesday for the new expansion is, obviously, jump into The Edge of Fate story. You’ll be thrown in as soon as you open the game if you have the new expansion, and it’s definitely worth getting stuck in as soon as possible to follow the story and unlock all of its secrets

The story for The Edge of Fate is being marketed as ‘non-linear’, and so it does offer more freedom to be able to do things how you wish in comparison to past expansions. So, if you do want to head off and do other things on this list, such as buildcraft or explore the world of Kepler, for a bit instead of rushing through the story, feel free to do so. Just continue where you left off, and it should be easy enough to jump back in very easily.

If you’re planning on doing The Desert Perpetual Contest Mode, you’ll want to finish the Legendary Campaign, as this will get you gear ready for the raid race on Saturday. You have an extra day compared to The Final Shape, so it’s not like there’s a huge time squeeze, just make sure that you’re prepared when it comes to power level to enter the raid if you want to do it. You can also do the normal campaign if you want, but you’ll have to manually grind Power Level rather than being given exactly what you need (by finishing the legendary campaign).

Explore The World of Kepler

Kepler is the world that The Edge of Fate takes place in, and it’s an incredibly interesting destination from the looks of things. With lots of puzzles, events, and secrets, you’ll want to get used to the world and how it works — especially since it looks like a lot of endgame rewards will be obtained through Kepler’s higher world tiers.

There are also destination specific abilities in Kepler, that help with traversal, puzzle solving, and combat. So, getting used to these and upgrading them will help in the long run. So, it’s probably worth investing some time in getting these abilities upgraded so you can utilise them at their fullest power in later world tiers.

On top of this, Kepler does seem to be full of interesting lore tidbits. We haven’t really seen much of the world, as Bungie has been keeping their lips sealed on the details of the expansion’s story, but it’s probably going to be worth taking the time to drink the world in and find out all of its lore secrets, easter eggs, and help work out where the Fate saga is going next.

Discover The Portal

In The Edge of Fate, you’re going to be greeted with a new way of entering activities. This new hub, dubbed The Portal, is going to be the way that you enter activities and playlists, and so getting yourself used to how it works is going to save tons of time and headaches overall. So, take some time to familiarise yourself with it and all of the settings, as it looks like it’s here to stay for a long time.

Interestingly, The Portal will allow you to customise your activities with more difficulty modifiers (for more loot), and so exploring all of the possible combinations will help you get an understanding of how you can actually juice your activities for the best possible loot while still keeping everything fun and rewarding. Of course, there will be some modifiers that just make the game miserable, and so working out which you like and which you don’t will be great early on to get into the flow of using The Portal.

Refine Your Build

Getting into The Edge of Fate, your build is going to be hugely different to how it was in The Final Shape. With all of the stat changes and the gear reworks, you’ll need to start adapting your build to the new systems, and so if you really want to tackle the content head on, this is great to do early on into your time in the game.

If you’ve played Destiny 2 before The Edge of Fate release, head to Ada-1 in the tower and you’ll have 20 free exotic rolls of your choosing. These will only be available until Renegades, so don’t be afraid to spend them now. Hopefully, if your luck is any better than mine, you might have some ‘illegal’ rolls of the armor that you want, so buildcraft away and hit the ground running.

Otherwise, you will drop new legendary gear over time, so don’t worry too much if you’ve missed out on those rolls. It might be a bit annoying at first to not have the same high-tier loot as people who have prepped for hours, but it’s seeming that the Set Bonuses on some of the armor will make up for it and will be worth considering in isolation of pure stats.

Closing Time

The Edge of Fate is an exciting new time for Destiny 2, and making sure that you’re prepared to head in and do whatever you’ll find most fulfilling is important to get the most out of your hours in the game. Of course, if you want to discover as you go along, then please enjoy doing so! We all enjoy games in our own ways, and the most important thing is that you play the game how you want to.
